Chosen by members’ votes, the President has among his/her functions:
a) Legally represent the Association before any kind of public or private organizations.
b) Call, chair and preside over the meetings held by the General Assembly and the Board of Directors
c) Direct the deliberations of both.
d) Order payments and authorize with his/her signature the documents, minutes and correspondence.
e) Adopt any urgent measure that the smooth running of the Association advises is necessary or desirable for the development of its activities, without prejudice to account later to the Board of Directors.
Antoni Riera Font (Santa Margalida, 1969), is chair professor of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he obtained his PhD (1998).
Impeller of the research group in Economic Analysis of Tourism Impacts (AEIT), its main lines of research are in the field of Environmental Economics, specifically in economic valuation techniques, and in the field of Regional Economics, with special mention to the tourist system. He is the author of more than fifty articles published in international journals and director, among other, of the White Book on Tourism of the Balearic Islands.
He has developed part of his academic career linked to the direction of the Economic Research Center (CRE), where he has made various publications, including Annals of Tourism Research, Climatic Change, Economía Aplicada, Ecological Economics, Environmental Management, Environmental Resources Economics, Journal of Forest Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Hacienda Pública Española, Tourism Economics, Tourism Management, among others. In addition, he has co-authored, among others, the Encyclopedia of Tourism and several chapters in international publishers such as Nova Science Publisher, Routledge and Witt Press .
He has also been distinguished with several awards including the 7th Catalan Prize of Economics of the Economics Catalan Society, the 5th Environment Prize of the Mallorca Insular Council or, at the time, the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.
As teacher, he has promoted several higher education programs such as the Master in Business Management: Quality and Environment, linked to the UNESCO / Sa Nostra Chair for Business Management and the Environment that he also led, the International Master in Tourism and the Environment Economics and the Master in Tourism Economics: Monitoring and Evaluation.
He currently directs the PhD Program in Applied Economics at the UIB, presides the Hispano-Portuguese Association of Natural and Environmental Resources (AERNA), directs the the Impulsa Balears Foundation and is member of several clusters as Balears.t and Turistec.
